Joyful Hot Chocolate

Learn how to make my go-to homemade vegan hot chocolate. It's super simple, creamy, rich and comforting.

Hot chocolate was never really my thing, definitely not something I would drink on a regular basis. But since I learned how to make this wonderful vegan version it changed everything for me.

2 mugs of vegan hot chocolate

This warming drink is perfect for a cozy weekend at home, as an afternoon boost of energy or just as a replacement for your morning cup of coffee.

The result is very rich in flavor and texture so I usually like to serve it in small teacups and not huge mugs.

Ingredients

  • 0.75 cup coconut cream (full-fat for a creamier result)
  • 1.25 cups water
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 3.5 tbsp maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp raw cacao powder
Optional toppings

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in a small saucepan over low-medium heat.

  2. Whisk together to ensure no cacao lumps remain. Bring to a soft simmer, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust.

  3. Remove from the stove and pour into mugs or small teacups. Serve with your preferred topping.
