Before ever trying to make chia jam, I was under the impression that it’s really complicated (and messy) to make homemade jams. If that wasn't enough, I was sure you must add tons of sugar in order to make it delicious.
Boy, was I wrong! Chia jam is not only delicious and refined sugar free, it’s also full of nutrients that are great for our body. Chia seeds contain fiber, protein, omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and important bone nutrients. That is why chia is considered one of the healthiest foods on the planet - a true SUPERFOOD.
There are many yummy ways to incorporate chia jam into your day - spread it on your toast, use it to top your yogurt or oats, add it to smoothies and even use it for desserts. Anything you can think of would surely turn out delicious!
I tested this recipe many times using all sorts of fruits, frozen or fresh, adding a bit of maple syrup or honey when I felt like it or not adding any sweetener at all. Everything works here, so feel free to mix it up!

Add the strawberries and sweetener of choice (optional) to a saucepan and set over medium heat.
Cook and stir occasionally until the strawberries start to soften and break down (about 5 minutes). Mash the strawberries using a fork, back of a spatula or a potato masher, making it as smooth as you like.
Stir in the chia seeds and remove from the heat. Allow to cool for a few minutes. If the jam is not thick enough you can add more chia seeds (0.5 tbsp at a time), just take into consideration that the jam will continue to thicken and set once completely chilled.
Transfer the jam to a clean jar or an airtight container and keep refrigerated.
The jam is good for about 2 weeks when kept refrigerated in a jar or an airtight container.
